Conclusion
Northwestern University (NU) is a classic example of an elite, private university that draws a high level of academic talent, and then proceeds to feed them biased, intellectual junk food. As bad as their forty-nine percent satisfactory general education course rating is, it's deceptively high. When all of the overwhelmingly benign foreign language courses are eliminated, the rating slips to an even more egregious forty-one percent. To top that, there are no satisfactory courses that fulfill either the U.S. Perspectives on Power, Justice, and Equity or the Global Perspectives on Power, Justice, and Equity requirements. This means there is no free path through NU's general education requirements. Students will have to take at least two politically-biased, indoctrinational courses to graduate.
The troubles for NU don't stop there. Although FIRE gives NU a yellow rating overall, they rank NU 238th out of 251 colleges for free speech with a “Poor” campus speech climate. It should come as no surprise then that a pro-Trump group had their display almost immediately defaced in violation of university rules, or that a student musical, Stephen Sondheim’s “Assassins”, was cancelled after a complaint from black students that the John Wilkes Booth character used the n-word.
Northwestern also seems to have an anti-semitism problem. Pro-Palestinian activists demonstrated on the first anniversary of the October 7 Hamas terror attack, calling for a free Palestine. In addition, the AMCHA Initiative gives NU an "extreme" anti-zionist rating for the faculty's pro-Palestinian activism. Both NU students and faculty have chapters of Justice for Palestine.

A close friend and serious Conservative graduated from NW decades ago. One of her grandchildren thinks he’d like to attend that college. After I let Barb read this info, that young man will be attending college elsewhere and Barb will no longer support NW alumni group. Also letting my guidance counselor friends know about NW—-but direct them to subscribe to the Inoculator Substack when they are back in school to find out what grade NW received.
I took down my NU degree from my LinkedIn profile. It’s an embarrassment.
